General Classroom Information...
This page should answer all of the questions you have about our classroom! If you have a question, but cannot find the answer here, please let me know! Someone else may have the same question!
Your student's assignment notebook should come home each night.
We take time at the end of every day to complete the notebook. It would be greatly appreciated if you would take the time to go over the listed assignments with your favorite student to make sure the work is done! THANKS!

Absent Work- If ill, I will try to send work home with a sibling or a neighbor, if possible. Please keep in mind, that I may not always have the opportunity during the day to put something together. Also please let me know if you are going on vacation so that we can make any necessary arrangements. I cannot guarantee homework will be given in advanced and of course, any class discussion that is missed cannot be replaced so please keep that in mind at test time.
Arrival/ Dismissal- STUDENTS SHOULD BE IN THE ROOM AT 8:45. DISMISSAL IS AT 3:40pm. Early arrivals need to wait in the hallway by the elementary office. Parents wishing to pick up their students need to wait by the office at the day’s end. Just a reminder, please check in the office if removing a student during the school day.
Birthday Treats- Birthday treats are more than welcome! Please let me know if a treat is coming. If your child has a summer birthday, ½ birthday celebrations are welcome!
Book Orders- These will be arriving in Friday envelops usually the first week of the month. If you wish to order, please write a check for the amount to be paid to the book company and return it in an envelope with the order form by the following Friday OR order and pay online! I have set up an account for our classroom and many more books are offered online in a variety of catalogs at a variety of levels plus I usually receive free books for our classroom when orders are placed online. A more specific note will be coming home explaining how to do this! It takes about one week to arrive. I can do surprises, simply write on the order “To be a Surprise” and I will let you know when it arrives. Our online code is: GP7KD.
Concert- The date for this year’s concert is Tuesday, December 5th at 2pm and 7pm.
Conferences – Please call the office to schedule fall conferences between 4-7:30pm on either Thursday, November 9th or Tuesday, November 14th. I hope to see all of you there! Spring conference dates will be scheduled for February 22nd and 27th.
Fundraising - Please see Madison. Save aluminum cans!
Friday Folders/Envelops - Each Friday a large envelope will be sent home containing various notes from the school. PLEASE RETURN THE FRIDAY FOLDER by the following Wednesday for more news!
Field Trip Chaperones- As field trips appear on our calendar and permission slips are sent home, requests for chaperones will be made at that time. For the safety of our students, you will need to complete the background check form provided in the office about one month before the field trip.
Homework- IN 4TH GRADE THERE WILL BE HOMEWORK EVERY NIGHT! Every night your child is expected to read at least 20 minutes. There will also always be Math and Spelling homework. Occasionally we will have special home projects.
Lunch- Lunch for 4th grade is 12:03-12:27. One day’s lunch is $2.60. A carton of milk is 35 cents. Lunch account balances can be checked online and contributed to using the new online service. Please call Amy Lawrenz in the kitchen if you need assistance at 994-2427.
Madison – While we have several fun field trips throughout the year, our extra special trip is to Madison to tour the capitol building and then the Wisconsin Historical Society Museum. We leave about 7:45am and return about 4pm, riding in a double decker Badger Bus. To make this trip possible, however, we need to fundraise in addition to the small fee charged to students. We have had great success with fundraising by recycling aluminum cans. A school family generously collects the cans from our classrooms every Friday or accepts cans and credits us at their business (see following map) if you tell them they are for us. If we have leftover funds, we have done some other fun activities as well! Please help support our trip!
Math Facts – This is 4th grade and all math facts should be well known through 15! This will only make it easier for your student to learn the more difficult multiplication and division we have ahead of us this year!
Math on my Website – To assist both parents and students with the newer style of teaching math, a variety of information is available on the math page of my class website! There are lesson videos, parent notes, problem set answers (the problem set is the math page we typically do in class but the homework mirrors it), printable homework pages in case a binder is forgotten, and more. Please see the Math Page for details.
Pictures – Elementary pictures will be taken Tuesday, September 14th.
Reading Rewards: Pizza Hut Book-It and 6 Flags Read to Succeed- Each year Pizza Hut sponsors a reading program called Book-It in which Pizza Hut gives each child the opportunity to read for free pizzas if they have read a given amount of minutes that month. I will be sending home more information in late September when the program actually begins. Please watch for this wonderfully simple form of encouragement to help our students read! In spring we will also participate in the 6 Flags Read to Succeed Program in which students can earn a free ticket to Six Flags Amusement Park next summer if they have read 600 minutes! FREE!
Specials Schedule- All of our specials are at the same time every day this year!
